Market halls and marketplaces are one of the best places to touch another culture. Today I was doing some Xmas groceries shopping at the Borough Market nearby the south bank of the London bridge.
I bought all the necessary stuff from there. Veggies were fresh - though even most of the Finns would be schocked over the price, and we also found the finest parts of the Angus beef, sweetcakes for the desert & some wine.
The place was definetly worth visiting and since we have the kitchen in our apartment we got even more out of the visit.
Borough market. Just three stations away from us and over London Bridge.
Fish sortiment is a bit different over here.
There were plenty of shoppers on Xmas eve. Market is situated under an train bridge.
Plenty of pork and poultry, but we managed to find some beef and game as well.
A bit more exotic part of a pig.
Mushroom desk was impressive and plenty of different sorts. But I would have left those chantarelles to the woods.
Some veggies were expensive, very expensive.
Plenty of folk on Xmas eve.
100% rye bread baked on dour dough! Big 35 cm radius bread for £8, half for £4.
We Finns can be very proud of our monopole. We get quality wine for much cheaper price.
Chestnuts roasting on...
But £1:60 for a French apple (a piece also!). That blew my mind out. No wonder Brits do not go for the fresh veggies.
We paid £23 for the veggies, £50 for Angus file (1 kg)& inner steak (1kg), £22 for wine, £17 for cakes.
