Modern Finnish Hospital Architecture: T-Hospital, TYKS, Finland

T-Sairaala, TYKS, Finland , a set on Flickr. Architect: Mikael Paatela , Year of completion 2013. A visit to a new T-Hospital in Turku was an exciting experience for someone who appeciates lean and functional architecture. A week ago I visited first time in the new T-hospital in Turku. A hospital which would replace among other things one of the signal buildings of the Finnish architecture: Alvar Aalto 's Paimio Sanatory (video). Paimio has been in active hospital use since 1930's and now, almost 80 years later, it was replaced with the new modern hospital building. But how does the new building comparison with an old one drawn by one of the icons in the modern architecture? Comparison, of course, is just for fun since you can't really make a comparison between these two buildings. One central part of Paimio's great design is how the place is situated in the middle of the nature and how Aalto's architecture brings the surrounding nature as part of the b...

Tate Modern (Xmas in London III)

Tate modern was one of the London's Millennium projects. Converting a huge power plant built in the 1960's to a modern art museum. Most of the general collection exhibitions are free for the visitors and for the special exhibitions you pay either £15 or £17.50 depending on whether you make a donation. That's for the adults. Kids get half price. Reserve plenty of the time to go throught the exhibitions. Men of the family chose the free exhibitions, dames the special ones. It took well over three hours from both to their parts through in a relaxed phase. Collection was impressive. Definetly worth visiting. Links: My daughter's blogpost on Tate . Tate Modern (coming up from 21st Feb: Roy Liechtenstein. Even the exhibition book (was on sale during Xmas at Tate) weighter like 2 kilos.

Lunch at The Tate Modern (Xmas in London II)

When we arrived to the Tate's we were starving. Before rushing up to the exhibition floors we headed for the Tate Modern Cafe. We were seated by the tables by the window towards the Thames with direct view to the St. Paul's Cathedral. After we were directed to the table by the host a waiter came to take our orders, another bloke came with drinks, the fourth one cleaned the table and the fifth one took the orders for the deserts. I guess that's Taylorism in the restaurant branch.. Tate Modern Cafe. A bit costly food for the best of the Art. Fish & Chips for the son. W/ horse raddish & mushed peas. £11.50 Pumpkin & beetroot salad. For the disappointment for my daughter, pumpkins were a bit raw. £6.50 Blackberry Cheesecake 4 my daughter as a desert. £5.25. Daily Fish was gorgeously cooked creamy cod with veggies. I've lived in Norway and eaten loads of god - and this was excellent. £23.90 for two. Dbl espresso for £2.20 was a bi...
