Xmas Grocery Shopping at Borough Market (Xmas in London IV)

Market halls and marketplaces are one of the best places to touch another culture. Today I was doing some Xmas groceries shopping at the Borough Market nearby the south bank of the London bridge. I bought all the necessary stuff from there. Veggies were fresh - though even most of the Finns would be schocked over the price, and we also found the finest parts of the Angus beef, sweetcakes for the desert & some wine. The place was definetly worth visiting and since we have the kitchen in our apartment we got even more out of the visit. Borough market. Just three stations away from us and over London Bridge. Fish sortiment is a bit different over here. There were plenty of shoppers on Xmas eve. Market is situated under an train bridge. Plenty of pork and poultry, but we managed to find some beef and game as well. A bit more exotic part of a pig. Mushroom desk was impressive and plenty of different sorts. But I would have left those chanta...

Lunch at The Tate Modern (Xmas in London II)

When we arrived to the Tate's we were starving. Before rushing up to the exhibition floors we headed for the Tate Modern Cafe. We were seated by the tables by the window towards the Thames with direct view to the St. Paul's Cathedral. After we were directed to the table by the host a waiter came to take our orders, another bloke came with drinks, the fourth one cleaned the table and the fifth one took the orders for the deserts. I guess that's Taylorism in the restaurant branch.. Tate Modern Cafe. A bit costly food for the best of the Art. Fish & Chips for the son. W/ horse raddish & mushed peas. £11.50 Pumpkin & beetroot salad. For the disappointment for my daughter, pumpkins were a bit raw. £6.50 Blackberry Cheesecake 4 my daughter as a desert. £5.25. Daily Fish was gorgeously cooked creamy cod with veggies. I've lived in Norway and eaten loads of god - and this was excellent. £23.90 for two. Dbl espresso for £2.20 was a bi...

Chicken Breasts on A Root Vegetable Bed

Chicken Breast with Root Vegetables. Easy, Fast & Tasty! Photo: Jarmo Röksä Today's dinner was easy to make but tasty at the table. Taken away time in the oven it takes just few minutes to prepare chicken breasts on a root vegetable bed. I like to keep my recipes simple and easy so here won't be any measurements. Chop potatoes, carrots & chunk of turnip to a big pieces (mix veggies according to your personal preference) (1) Peel onions and cut them half and throw in to the casserole. (1) Spice it up with rosemary, thyme, salt & peppar. (1) Pour in generously with olive oil (1) Place chicken breasts (with bones!) on the top of the roots. (if you wish marinade it first with olive oil, lemon, garlic (just a little!), basil, salt & pepper, or just put salt & pepper on the top) (2) Put it in the ovet at 175 ° Celsius and wait around 1 - 1.5 hour depending on the size of your chicken.(3) Serve with fresh salad.
