Chicken Breast with Root Vegetables. Easy, Fast & Tasty! Photo: Jarmo Röksä Today's dinner was easy to make but tasty at the table. Taken away time in the oven it takes just few minutes to prepare chicken breasts on a root vegetable bed. I like to keep my recipes simple and easy so here won't be any measurements. Chop potatoes, carrots & chunk of turnip to a big pieces (mix veggies according to your personal preference) (1) Peel onions and cut them half and throw in to the casserole. (1) Spice it up with rosemary, thyme, salt & peppar. (1) Pour in generously with olive oil (1) Place chicken breasts (with bones!) on the top of the roots. (if you wish marinade it first with olive oil, lemon, garlic (just a little!), basil, salt & pepper, or just put salt & pepper on the top) (2) Put it in the ovet at 175 ° Celsius and wait around 1 - 1.5 hour depending on the size of your chicken.(3) Serve with fresh salad.   

The painting hanging on the wall of the country house has always intrigued me. Definetly it belongs to the mid 19th early 20th Century tradition of horse paintings. Horse art became a major genre in the British decorative painting in the 19th century. Themes by equestrian and hunting horses and scenes became very popular - and also owners of great horses wanted their animals painted. Also the first class French artists like Degas, Delacroix and Manet contributed to the scene. However the most visible - as a cultural phenomenon - were hundreds and hundreds of paintings by English artists like Ben Marshall, John Frederick Herring and many more which produced paintings as their main artistic theme. Often scenes of the horses were presented in Romantic landscapes. One sub-niché of this popular theme were to portrait horses and dogs together. Joulu tuo juhlista pakanallisin lähestyy. Monella jouluisilla perinteillä on juurensa muualla kuin länsimaisessa kristillisessä perinteessä. Asia tuli mieleeni, kun otin äsken valokuvaa kahdesta olkipukista. Pukki ei johdata meitä seimen ääreen, vaan se on vanha pohjoismaiseen perinteeseen liittyvä hedelmällisyyden symboli. Talven pimeän selkä katkesi talvipäivänseisauksen aikaan ja valo voitti pimeyden. Aurinko herättää maan ja viljan. Pukki tehtiin viljasta ja poltettiin hedelmällisyyden ja viljasadon turvaamiseksi. Toinen teoria liittää olkipukin [syntipukin] pimeän aikaan liikkuneisiin piruihin, joita Suomessa myös tontuiksi kutsuttiin. Tontut äityivät julmiksi ja pahoiksi juuri talvipäivänseisauksen aikaan ja olkipukit vetivät piruja sisäänsä magneetin tavoin - ja talossa olevat ihmiset ja huusholli säilyivät pirun metkuilta. Web of Trust on suomalainen palvelu, jota kovinkaan moni ei tunne, mutta jota kaikki kuitenkin tietämättään käyttävät. WOT-palvelu on integroitu osaksi facebookia. Olet varmastikin nähnyt pyöreän "liikennevalon" Facebookin kautta jaetuissa linkeissä? Mutta mitä tämä miljardin ihmisen tietämättään käyttämä palvelu oikein tekee? Facebookin miljardi käyttäjää käyttävät suomalaista WOTia tietämättään. WOT:n turvallisuussymboli näkyy Facebookin kautta jaetuissa linkeissä. WOT tekee verkossa surffaamisen turvallisemmaksi. Aikaisemmin sivujen ulkoasusta pystyi päättelemään paljonkin, mutta viime aikoina huijariverkkokauppojen ulkoasu on muuttunut aivan yhtä ammattimaisen näköiseksi kuin rehellistenkin toimijoiden. WOT:ssa käyttäjät luokittelevat verkkosivuja niiden turvallisuuden mukaan. Kriteereitä ovat luotettavuus, asionnin turvallisuus, tietosuoja sekä lapsiturvallisuus. Olin 1990-luvun lopulla mukana perustamassa Suomen White Ribbon -kampanjaa . Kampanjan ainoana tavoitteena oli pyrkiä lopettamaan miesten naisiin kohdistuvasta väkivallasta vaikeneminen sekä sen hiljainen hyväksyntä. Nyt n. 15 vuotta myöhemmin voi todeta, että miehisestä väkivallasta puhutaan enemmän kuin silloin, mutta valitettavasti väkivallan määrässä ei ole tapahtunut suurta muutosta. Se on edelleen suuri yhteiskunnallinen ongelma. Sunnuntaina vietetään YK:n julistamaa kansainvälistä naisiin kohdistuvan väkivallan vastaista päivää. Kynttilätapahtumia järjestetään eri puolilla Suomea ja voit tarkastaa lähimmän tapahtuman tästä linkistä . Tapahtuman järjestäjinä on useita eri aatteellisia ja puolueiden naisjärjestöjä, mutta valitettavasti meitä miesjärjestöjen edustajia on edelleen vain me yksin. Luennoin loppuiltapäivällä Taideakatemiassa Turun ammattikorkeakoulun ja Turun yliopiston yhteisellä luennolla bloggaamisesta. Luentoyleisönä ovat kuulemani mukaan AMK:n elokuvan, journalismin ja mainonnan suunnittelijaopiskelijat, mainonnan suunnittelijat, käsikirjoittajat, aikuisopiskelijat sekä luovan kirjoittamisen opiskelijat. Tämä luento ei kuitenkaa keskity niinkään kirjoittamiseen kuin blogeihin yleisenä ilmiönä, niiden historiaan ja kehittymiseen. Mielestäni taustojen ja blogimekanismien tunteminen auttaa kirjoittajia löytämään kohderyhmänsä ja hyödyntämään kenties myös oikeita työkaluja tavoitteensa saavuttamiseksi. Itselleni oli yllätys, että jopa 11% bloggaajista ansaitsee leipänsä bloggaamisella (esitys alla Prezinä, saat sen esiin klikkaamalla tämän jutun suuremmaksi).

On 17th November (2012) Evernote sent an important note for its users . Surprisingly I have not seen many commentaries for this dramatic announcement. Evernote is a digital storage for your memories - photos, receipts, notes, documents - storaged in to the cloud, accessible from any device. Wonderful service answering to real user need. Answer is: Titles written in that way. Titles which do not give an answer in itself but temp people to click them further in a story. When I taught journalism one of the most important rules was to load the most important information in to the title and the first lines of the story. However they had to be written in a way which tempted people to read more. In a era of the internet many of the mass media is living in "The Economy of the Clicks". This means that in order to find out what is the answer to the "question" raised in a title, you have to click further in to the story. When people share articles to Facebook or Twitter, you do not see the informatio in a shared "infobox" but have to click further. Don't waste my time. I do not click that kind of stories. Never.Time is my most valuable asset and it irritates me when someone is wasting it. I want my information here, now and fast - not after clicking. Are journalist nowdays just click pimp

Yesterday evening I published a photo from my local pub in Facebook. It was a photo from a sign announcing a new drink called StarWars (Tähtien Sota in Finnish) made up by Hugo's bartender. Ja llu, a.k.a Jaloviina is Finland's Jack Daniels. Known as a drink for rockers, poets and bohemians. A real classic. Jaloviina won Finnish hearts in 1932 when the Prohibition was abolished in Finland after 13 years in practice. Jaloviina (noble spirits, free translation) is cognac blended with grain spirit. Blending ratio is expressed with the stars. One star Jaloviina's blending ratio is 1/4 of cognac, two stars' (came back to the market this year due to 80th Anniversary) 1/2 of cognac. I have an application bar in my browser which alerts of the hottest searches in the web right now. Today, alongside, with the normal "thanksgiving recipies" there was something which caught my attention. "Human Barbie" are one of the hottest worlds in the internet right now. It prooved to be an Ukrainian curiosity, a young woman, whose dream is to resemble the plastic barbie-doll instead of a real human being. So she has taken cosmetic manipulation of her body over the extreme end. Photos made me sick. It is more and more disturbing to see what people can do in order to get their 15 minutes in media.    Reality shows, blogs, magazines are filling up with the people who want to have their part in a fake publicity . Once and a while you start to wonder, were there a whole in the society's safety net when these people slipped thought it. They do not deserve publicity but care and therapy. Yesterday my hometown Turku was touched by a shocking news. A 8 year old boy was killed by a bus while he was crossing the street on a way to his school. The first school day after The Father's Day was his last one. My thoughts go for the parents and friends. My deepest condolances. Memory candles lit for the boy killed in Turku on 12th November 2011. Indifference is the word which describes us in the traffic. As a pedestrian, cyclist or as a driver I see dangerous situations every day. We do not follow rules and even argue that the reason why we do not follow the rules is the fact that nobody else does. Many drivers argument that the reason they do not stop in front of the zebra crossing is the danger that another car can drive by without stopping - and causing extremely dangerous situation. So, I can break the law because there's a risk that someone else is breaking it even more seriously. I do not get this. I am a driver who categorically stops in front of the cros
