I write in margins

Presentation on the successful blogging Recently I held an lecture for our international students about blogging as a phenomena. Blogging has silently grewn as a big business and since the emerging of the multi-author blogs in 2009, many of the major media sites of the Internet are actually blogs written by many people. Think for instance Technocrati, The Huffington Post, Ars Technica and many others. Also many of the solo bloggers have become world stars with their stories. How did this happen? Is it really true that 10% of the bloggers receive their primary income by blogging? That might be one of the reason the blogging as a phenomena has exploded during the past couple of years. The presentation below is an introduction to blogging. It's historym, different types of the blogging and foremost, how to create a successful blog. Most of the "how to make a great blog" -advices are made from an individual writer point of view. But I argue that is wrong. When we exam...

Table and Chair shelter for horses was a troll. Yesterday I asked my students whether they had seen the fake Facebook postings of "Facebook copyright disclaimer" and "lottery winner giving 1 million $ away for a random liker" . Everyone had seen these and many had seen those distributed by their friends. Many had been trolling. There has been three big trolls out there within just a week. Generating millions of repostings and thousands of blog postings. Most of them believing the fake story behind them. The third one was the posting of horses sheltering under a giant table and chairs claiming that horse owner built them because he was denied the building permission to build a traditional horse shelter by a city council. Sorry to say but the posting was untrue. The photograph is real, these chairs and tables do exist, but they were originally built by a German furniture manufacturer in order to advertise their products. The photo was first published by TIM...

I have an application bar in my browser which alerts of the hottest searches in the web right now. Today, alongside, with the normal "thanksgiving recipies" there was something which caught my attention. "Human Barbie" are one of the hottest worlds in the internet right now. It prooved to be an Ukrainian curiosity, a young woman, whose dream is to resemble the plastic barbie-doll instead of a real human being. So she has taken cosmetic manipulation of her body over the extreme end. Photos made me sick. It is more and more disturbing to see what people can do in order to get their 15 minutes in media.    Reality shows, blogs, magazines are filling up with the people who want to have their part in a fake publicity . Once and a while you start to wonder, were there a whole in the society's safety net when these people slipped thought it. They do not deserve publicity but care and therapy. It is obvious that Valerie Lukyanova, The Human Barbie, does not ha...
