Today I Saw the Future of Live Social Video: Younow

Younow , a photo by jroxa on Flickr. Krayway user promoting her Facebook and Twitter profiles. Fortunately, I have a daughter who is active in a digtal world. I regularly find new social media services before they become mainstream. And, at the same time, I get an excellent pitch of the service my daughter has found. Today I found the Future of the Live Streamed Social Video Recently, I noticed my daughter had streamed live video over the internet. She loves to sing and perform and is an active user of Soundcloud, Twitter and Youtube. Facebook is not the thing for her generation anymore. It was corrupted when we entered to it. While we grown up still are fancying about link sharing, status updates and other "exciting" stuff in Facebook, our kids are nomading over to other services. Younow is an good example of such a new services - and you realise the fact it is not an adult's thing by browsing the live channels. Over 20 year olds are almost non existing. Youkn...

Turkish Government Tried to Stop my Tweets

Today, I experienced something never before. Propably the fake Twitter user of Turkish government tried to silence me tweeting my commentaries of the demonstrations in Istanbul. Tweets from which I got the personal RT record - thank you for sharing, and please do that! I have Turkish friends which are touched by the current demonstrations in Istanbul. Demonstrators are against the plans for building a mall to a park and they criticize the government for undemocratic decision making during the process. People were not heard and they claimed the decision makers for the corruption. So, they did the only thing they could do. Go to the streets. And the government response has been attacking against the demonstrators with the hard force. With rubber bullets, teargas, water canons and chemical substances I thought it was not even possible to use this day. I admire the demonstrators for their spirit and the courage to go to the street when everyone watching the incident outside can see ...

Grandpa in Wallmart, 87 year old Rose in a College and Kittens in Bottles

Remember the Grandpa who was tired of following his wife to the shopping at Wallmart and got banned from the supermarket because he - among other things - placed condoms in other people's carts and made a trail of tomato juice on the floor leading to the women's restroom. * Image often attached to the Wall Mart hoax. A documentary photo kind of makes the story more valid? Or perhaps you remember the story of a 87 year old Rose who fulfilled her dream to study in college - and died just one week after graduation? ** Photo of a 87 year old college student Rose is actually a photo of  Nola Ochsin who in 2007 got in to the Guinness Book of  Records as the olders college graduate (95) ever Or a farmer who made gigantic table and chairs to his horses when he was denied construction permit by the local government? *** These furniture are not constructed by an angry farmer. Anatomy of an hoax All these are good examples of the stories which have been circul...

Mr. Wolfdog and The Old Spice

Hahaha. Today I landed as one of the first persons to Old Spice's new digital campaign and I bet this will definetly get some awareness in social media. Mr. Wolfdog, Old Spice's new marketing director, presents the hard facts of the life in the advertising branch and yes, sometimes you have to eat people in that sector too. Old Spice, formerly known from the iconic appearance by Fabio, has now recruited an wild animal deep from the forests. Mr. Wolfdog. The best expert to work as marketing director for company's new Old Spice Wild collection. The first video appearance of the new marketing director is hilarious. And the remarks how the advertising and marketing branch works hit the bull's eye as well. But there is more. It gets even better. At the end of the video there is a link to the mrwolfdog.com - click it . Wow! The first major brand doing hommage for the web page design of the 90's and suprisingly it does work. I salute! Old Spice got it. This will spr...

Social Media and Marketing. What, Why & How.

Marketing and Social Media is one of the favourite subjects in professional discussion boards about the social media. Organisations are delighted over an opportunity where friend's recommendation weights more than an experts criticism over a product or a service. Actually recommendation and jungle drum has been measured against the traditional advertisement too. Why people talk about the marketing in Social Media, then? It is obvious. To this lecture I held yesterday I  collected some usage data from various sources available in internet - thank you my some-friends for sharing the links and who truly are living in the age of sharing. As someone has said it "Internet's superstars are those who share". The former paradigm of possessing the information and keeping it itself does not bear in the Era of Sharing. So, I share. You can use and share the presentation as you like with the spirit of Creative Commons licensing. The rules of the game are changing. Telling...

Dear Mr. Zuckerberg

Dear Mr. Zuckerberg, How would you feel if your brother dies and Facebook still sends reminders of his birthday? Or you would see his unknowing social media pals congratulating him a year after his dead? Isn't that slightly macabre thought? It is. And this is exactly what is happening to me. A year ago I contacted to Facebook' support services and wished that my late brother's account would be changed to a memorial account. My brother passed 364 days ago, just four days after his dead. I can assure you it was not an easy bite to get a birthday reminder four days after his death. And the same thing will happen now on Sunday. During the past 364 days I have send dozens of support request for your "inform in the late Facebook user" form and I have not received any reply from you. Automatic pop up window promises me that you'll customer service will contact me soon by email. But how soon is your soon? Is a year soon? Not for someone who has desperately and r...

Angry Aps II: Sumopaint

Finnish gaming industry has got lots of publicity recently after successes by Rovio and Supercell. But this is not about the gaming - this is about other great Finnish applications which have somehow affected my life and working in digital world. My personal history of digital drawing I have drawn comics and illustrations commercially since I was fifteen. Already early in the home computer era I nomaded in to the digital drawing and I am still on that journey. During the past 20-30 years I have used the most graphical tools there are and many times desperately seeked free solutions to do the basic graphics stuff when the expensive proprieraty solutions were out of reach. Sumopaint is in the cloud Some years ago I was on the road and needed to have an graphics application for my digital illustrations. I like to keep my presentations visual and I hate to snatch and use images which are made by someone else than by me. So what to do? I did not want to use the crappy Paint in the...

Linnanjuhlat twiitattiin maailmanlaajuiseksi trendiksi

The Amazing Statistics of the Internet

Last weekend I was searching some statistical data for my lecture on social media. I popped in to many so interesting sites and news stories about the internet that I got an inspiration to create my second Infograph ever. The major sources I used were AllTwitter, AllFacebook, Wikipedia, Techcrunch & The Huffington Post which I judge to be relatively trustworthy sources in the subject matter. The figures mirror the status in the internet in December 2012. This is what happens in internet. In every minute. If you wish to use the image in your presentation you might find the high resolution image of it helpful. You'll find it in my Flickr-account . If you want to have this also in Finnish, just leave a commentary below. It does not take much time since all the bits and pieces are in place.

The Truth Behind Giant Furnitures and Horses?

Table and Chair shelter for horses was a troll. Yesterday I asked my students whether they had seen the fake Facebook postings of "Facebook copyright disclaimer" and "lottery winner giving 1 million $ away for a random liker" . Everyone had seen these and many had seen those distributed by their friends. Many had been trolling. There has been three big trolls out there within just a week. Generating millions of repostings and thousands of blog postings. Most of them believing the fake story behind them. The third one was the posting of horses sheltering under a giant table and chairs claiming that horse owner built them because he was denied the building permission to build a traditional horse shelter by a city council. Sorry to say but the posting was untrue. The photograph is real, these chairs and tables do exist, but they were originally built by a German furniture manufacturer in order to advertise their products. The photo was first published by TIM...

Do You Read Small Print? Evernote's Giant Leap for EEA Users.

On 17th November (2012) Evernote sent an important note for its users . Surprisingly I have not seen many commentaries for this dramatic announcement. Evernote is a digital storage for your memories - photos, receipts, notes, documents - storaged in to the cloud, accessible from any device. Wonderful service answering to real user need. Evernote's announcement is the first big move from the major American digital service provider in realisation that they are a global company. Working under "US [Californian] legislation" can be an real obstacle when seeking growth potential from the enterprise customer sector. Major changes Evernote is doing : Less legal jargon making small print readable and understandable for the users Establishing Evernote GmbH in Switzerland. For "users in the European Economic Area, this means that Evernote GmbH is the data controller for data protection purposes. Arbitration of the disputes on individual basis between the user and...
